Favorite track: Blackthorn.

Gavin McAllister This is a fantastic album, emphasising a wealth of different styles, from doom (funereal in some places, soaring in others) to moments of darkwave and harsh electronica

Darren’s vocals are a particular highlight, charged with real emotion and suit the music perfectly. While the album is brilliantly abrasive in places, its the moments of restraint building to epic passages which really hit home - the song ‘Blackthorn’ is the best example of this.

Often attempts to meld these type of influences can sound clumsy but this is the sound of a band absolutely nailing their vision. Was (am) a fan of the last album, ‘The Perfect Dark’, but this is definitely a step up.

Highly recommend for fans of any dark alternative music, really hope this gains the attention it deserves!

1.
(Words by William Butler Yeats) A sudden blow: the great wings beating still Above the staggering girl, her thighs caressed By the dark webs, her nape caught in his bill, He holds her helpless breast upon his breast. How can those terrified vague fingers push The feathered glory from her loosening thighs? And how can body, laid in that white rush, But feel the strange heart beating where it lies?
2.
Marching in Circles The culture of fear prevails across this land Rivers of tears for sons and daughters gone mad They'll never know the end is always so near They'll fall to their knees and pray For the light to take you They're marching in circles again We stood in disbelief and watched it burn Get back in one piece from a place of no return We're on a road that will lead to our doom Lost in the dark, your heart is a four chambered ruin Haunted by ghosts and filled with just the pale moon They lie through their teeth and we'll meet our fate soon They poisoned your mind with just one book It breaks my fucking heart to see this fall We tried so very hard to heed your call Regrets is all we'll have when this end comes I'm back for my revenge and I smell blood We're not dead yet.
3.
Small Fortune We set sail across an ocean of despair Where silence was the siren's call And though they tried so many times To sink us down Together we ploughed on Through canyons of black waves And always kept a diamond in our mind While we fought back demons It gave us something to believe Something worth fighting for It gave us something to believe Something worth dying for We set sail and we're never coming back We looked inside ourselves And we found a small fortune We found a small fortune
4.
Where I Belong A part of you A part of me Must die Before we plunge Into the black tonight Turn to me And say my name One last time We won't look back That's in the past The wind through the trees is all I'll be hearing I'm finally free with nothing to believe in It will be cold outside when I am leaving Where I belong The looking glass Old photographs Of times long gone Burnt out old flames Trapped in their frames Forever young A winding road A faded book You're gone People want What they can't have The moon makes the sea forever restless The emptiness in me was sent here to test us It will be cold outside when I am leaving Where I belong Save me from myself The world is such a cold And a lonely place Without you I tried to know myself Without you I tried to know myself But its no use Its no use.
5.
Shot Down 03:35
Shot Down Dead eyes look back at me Headlines, beware of me They say all will end well We prey on what we can sell The glory of ashes Is the part you shot down Rise with the broken We're the ones shot down Could you be a friend to me Now you're all but dead to me Secrets should be kept Cutting until nothing's left No path to glory For the ones shot down Desiring no return For the ones shot down A hostage to fortune With a heart shot down Your glory in ashes Like a heart shot down.
6.
Blackthorn 07:04
Blackthorn The words of a sad song The blackbird swoops down Shadows are longer When theres leaves On the ground Something so familiar About a place unknown Sparked a longing That took us far from home I can't remember I've lost your face But the pieces that haunt me Drag me back to this place Speak of our glory Through our graves winds will blow I know that I lost you Where the blackthorn grows She goes Her ghost goes The message was unclear But we done what we could The pines of slumber Must draw their blood They make a fine crown Fit for a king Woven by these hands And from forgotten things Hope springs eternal From the breast of all mankind But hope is a curse too It'll drive you out of your mind I can't remember Caught in the throes I know that I lost you Where the blackthorn grows.
7.
Fix Your Heart Or Die Pleasures of the flesh are only skin deep You're defined by the secrets you keep If one day you lose yourself What you'll learn, you'll scare yourself Lust and sin taste so good Like an animal if you could When you die its much too late Your chance is lost Why did you wait? In this new world The lines are blurred Don't be the lie Fix your heart or die You'll never know this You better fix your heart or die Who are these shadows that haunt your dreams? And make you crave a life obscene What are these lies you tell yourself? Just walk alone and seek no help You are flawed, desire rules you Give yourself to what tempts you Face the grave with a smile on your face And leave this earth without a trace We all run out of time Shed your skin And taste the divine Don't be afraid to live your life You must try Fix your heart or die.
8.
Kiss the Moon When these lights fade Into the darkness We will disappear Side by side Escape with me And through the forest We will run Just you and I My love It comes too soon When we must part Kiss the moon And remember My black heart This black heart The world's asleep While we are screaming Through empty streets Faster than light A rush of blood A single heartbeat From the edge Tumbling down Forever down Its what you do And where you Leave your mark Don't speak too soon And remember Le Depart Kiss the moon For we must part Kiss the moon I surrender This black heart Surrender to the dark Surrender your heart.
